Dragon Horn Shards are one of the four materials that players can get from dragons in Tears of the Kingdom. The dragons themselves aren't aggressive, but they can be dangerous for those that approach them without caution. This can potentially make it a bit tricky to farm parts from them.

Unlike Dragon Scales, players will need to be accurate when aiming and firing an arrow for Dragon Horns. Different body parts on a dragon will yield different drops, thus it's always important to know where to shoot. In Tears of the Kingdom, players will need each type of Dragon Horn for armor upgrades.

Farming Dragon Horns in TotK

To get a Dragon Horn, fire an arrow at the dragon's horn(s). It's pretty straightforward, and the type of horn that drops will depend on the dragon:

The Light Dragon and Dinraal have two horns protruding out of its head. Shooting either one will yield a horn shard, but players will want to be close to the horn so that they can grab it when it drops.

Players won't be able to use a wooden bow when farming from Dinraal. They also can't use a metal bow when farming from Farosh. This is due to the dragons' elements: fire and electricity, respectively.

Naydra has a crown of horns while Farosh has a single horn. Both of these can be stood on, making them far easier to shoot and catch horn shards compared to Dinraal and the Light Dragon.

How to Get Shard of Light Dragon's Horn

The Light Dragon may be the easiest to farm from when compared to the other dragons. She doesn't go into any Chasms, so players will have no need to search The Depths for her. However, she has the biggest flight path, which can potentially make it harder to track her down.

She will fly clockwise over Hyrule close to the Skyview Towers and over some of the Geoglyphs. The easiest way to climb on the Light Dragon's back is to launch Link from a Skyview Tower when she's nearby. Then, use the paraglider to glide towards her. If players have Vow of Tulin, they can reach her a bit quicker than those without.

Players can also track the Light Dragon if they speak to the Great Deku Tree in the Korok Forest. The forest itself can't be reached on The Surface, so players will need to go into the Chasm north of Woodland Stable and navigate to the forest from The Depths. Get rid of the gloom, then speak to him for the Master Sword side quest.

If players don't have the sword yet, then a yellow objective marker will indicate the Light Dragon's current location. Those that already have the Master Sword won't be able to track the Light Dragon. Thus, it may be best to hold off on getting the sword until players have farmed everything they need from her.

How to Get Shard of Dinraal's Horn

loz totk dinraal path

Dinraal is at the very northeast of The Surface. She will enter the Drenan Highlands Chasm and fly through The Depths. She'll return to The Surface by leaving from the East Akkala Plains Chasm.

The closest Travel Point to the East Akkala Plains Chasm is the Sinatanika Shrine; the closest to the Drenan Highlands Chasm is the Typhlo Ruins Skyview Tower.

  • East Akkala Plains (emerges from The Depths):
    • Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower (3493, 2019, 0188)
    • Sinatanika Shrine (3842, 2300, 0048)
  • Drenan Highlands (enters The Depths):
    • Typhlo Ruins Skyview Tower (0338, 3123, 0174)
    • Kikakin Shrine (-0395, 2736, 0287)

Dinraal's entire body radiates powerful heat and flames. Getting too close to her or standing on her back without equipping flame-resistant gear (ie: Flamebreaker Set) will set Link on fire. Fireballs also float around her as she flies, so it's best to avoid those while paragliding.

If Link upgrades the Flamebreaker Set to level 2, he'll get the Fireproof Set Bonus. As its name indicates, this ability will prevent Link from catching on fire as long as he's wearing the complete Flamebreaker Set.

How to Get Shard of Naydra's Horn

loz totk naydra path

As an ice dragon, Naydra prefers areas that are colder. Her flight path has her rise from the Naydra Snowfield Chasm, and entering The Depths from the East Hill Chasm. Fortunately, her flight path is much smaller than the other dragons, as she only flies near Mount Lanayru.

The closest Travel Point to the Naydra Snowfield Chasm is the Lanayru Skyview Tower or the Zakusu Shrine. Those that want to catch her as she dives into the Depths should warp to Kakariko Village and climb the hill near the Ring Ruins.

  • Naydra Snowfield (leaves The Depths):
    • Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower (3845, -1306, 0539)
    • Zakusu Shrine (3527, -1482, 0168)
  • East Hill (enters The Depths):
    • Kakariko Village (1822, -1002, 0112)

Naydra is too cold to get close to, so players will need some cold-resistant armor or take Chilly Elixirs. Without the proper gear, she may unintentionally freeze Link if he lands on her back or if he gets hit by one of the iceballs that surround her. If she does freeze Link, he'll fall to the ground, which may result in an instant death.

Combat Naydra's frigid temperature by wearing the Snowquill Set from Rito Village. At level 2, this armor will give Link the Unfreezable Set Bonus.

How to Get Shard of Farosh's Horn

loz totk farosh path

Farosh brings a storm wherever she flies on The Surface, so right away, remove any metal weapons, shields, or bows before going after her. She prefers the Gerudo Canyon and Faron Region, entering The Depths at the Hills of Baumer Chasm, and emerging from them at the East Gerudo Chasm.

Those that want to catch her right as she emerges from The Depths should launch from the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower, and glide over to the East Gerudo Chasm. If pursuing her as she dives into The Depths, players can use the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower instead.

  • East Gerudo (leaves The Depths):
    • Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower (-2423, -2202, 0302)
    • Siwakama Shrine (-2445, -3345, 0041)
  • Hills of Baumer (enters The Depths):
    • Popla Foothills Skyview Tower (0602, -2118, 0098)
    • Susub Shrine (0348, -2051, -0026)

Link can protect himself from getting a nasty shock if he wears Shock Resistant armor, or he can take an Electro Elixir. Shock Resistant armor includes the Rubber Set, but players that manage to upgrade the Desert Voe Set to level 2 will unlock its Shock Resistant Set Bonus. This means that if Link gets hit by electricity, he won't drop his weapons/shield/bow.

If players intend to sit anywhere on Farosh's body, then they'll need electric resistance. Otherwise, just glide close enough and shoot an arrow at the horn.
